Test-driven development

Test-driven development for software you can change with confidence

We write the test before the code. The result is software with fewer defects, cleaner design and a safety net that makes every future change faster and less risky.

What we deliver

Testing built into how we engineer

We practice TDD on every project we deliver, and help teams introduce it into existing products and pipelines.

TDD software development

New features built red-green-refactor, with unit and integration tests delivered alongside the code.

Legacy code under test

Characterization tests that lock in current behavior so legacy systems can be refactored safely.

Test automation

Unit, API and end-to-end suites using TestBox, pytest, Vitest, Jest and Playwright.

CI/CD pipelines

Automated builds that run every test on every change and block broken code from reaching production.

Testing AI systems

Evaluation suites and regression tests for prompts, retrieval and model behavior.

TDD coaching

Hands-on pairing and workshops that help your developers adopt TDD in their own codebase.

Why BlueMind Tech

The business case for TDD

Defects found in production are far more expensive than defects caught while the code is being written. TDD moves quality to the earliest, cheapest point.

Just as important, a trustworthy test suite lets your team — and AI coding assistants — change the code quickly without fear. Speed and quality stop being a trade-off.

  • Fewer bugs reaching your customers
  • Cleaner, more modular design
  • Confident refactoring and upgrades
  • Faster onboarding for new developers
  • Tests that double as living documentation
  • Safer use of AI-generated code

How we work

Red, green, refactor

  1. 01

    Red

Write a small automated test for the next piece of behavior. It fails because the behavior does not exist yet.

  2. 02

    Green

Write the simplest code that makes the test pass — nothing more.

  3. 03

    Refactor

Improve the design while the tests confirm that behavior has not changed.

  4. 04

    Automate

Every test runs in CI on every change, so the safety net grows with the product.

Frequently asked questions

What is test-driven development?

Test-driven development (TDD) is a practice where developers write an automated test for a small piece of behavior before writing the code that implements it, then refactor once the test passes. The cycle is known as red, green, refactor.

Does TDD slow development down?

TDD can take slightly longer per feature at first, but it reduces debugging, regressions and rework. Over the life of a product, teams using TDD typically ship changes faster and with fewer production incidents.

Can you add tests to an existing application with no tests?

Yes. We start with characterization tests around the most important workflows, then add unit tests as we refactor. This is how we safely modernize legacy applications, including ColdFusion.

Which testing frameworks do you use?

We use the right tool for your stack, including TestBox for ColdFusion, pytest for Python, Vitest or Jest for JavaScript and TypeScript, and Playwright for end-to-end browser testing.
